Episode 56, The Marshall Art of how to adjust your tax withholdings on a W-4 OR keeping more of your paycheck where it belongs!
An easy way to determine where you stand anytime during the year is to go to the tax withholding estimator at irs.gov. To use the estimator, you'll generally want your most recent pay stub, and if you're married, your spouse's as well. If you have self-employment income, investments, pensions, or expect to itemize deductions, having your most recent tax return and those records handy will make the estimate more accurate. The estimator will ask you about you and your spouse, if you have one, your income and any adjustments, deductions, or credits you think you might claim. The beauty is if you decide to change your tax withholding, you can use your estimate to generate a pre-filled Form W-4 or Form W-4P to provide to your employer or pension provider.
