Episode 58, The Marshall Art of donating your time OR making an impact that money can't buy!
There are countless organizations that need help. So where do you start? My advice is simple: don’t start with what everyone else is doing. Start with what matters to you. Think about four things. First, your values. What causes or issues are important to you? What do you care deeply about? Second, your interests and strengths. What do you enjoy doing? What are you good at? What skills or experiences could you share? Third, your available time. Be honest with yourself. How much time can you realistically give without creating another source of stress in your life? And fourth, the need. Where is there an organization or person whose needs intersect with what you care about and what you can offer? Put those four things together and you have a pretty good formula: What matters to you, plus what you can offer, plus the time you can realistically give, plus a genuine community need, can lead you to the right volunteer opportunity. And there’s one more piece of advice I would add: try before you commit.
